Mahmoud Reza Hashemi received his B.Sc.,and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tehran. He pursued his Ph.D. degree at the University of Ottawa, Canada. He is currently a tenured associate professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Tehran. Dr. Hashemi is the co-founder and director of the Multimedia Processing Laboratory (MPL). His research interests include Applied AI for multimedia systems and networks, cloud gaming, computer architecture, and security of information technology services.
He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT), and a Guest Editor of a special issue of the IEEE Open Journal of Signal Processing on Applied AI and ML for video coding and streaming. He has been a TPC member of the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia, and ACM Multimedia Systems. He is a recipient of the ICME Quality Reviewer Award in 2011 and 2013.
