Current research areas: Discovery and development of microbial products on a lab. and pilot scales, such as smart polymers, new generation probiotics, and novel bioactive metabolites.
Industrial activities: Development of the erythromycin fermentation, development of various know-how including clavulanic acid, yeast extract, peptone, microbial polysaccharides dextran, cellulose, nisin, a novel anticancer and wound healing polysaccharide, Zn-rich yeast, actinobacterial biofertilizers, biosorbents, and probiotics.
Biodiversity activities: Research on desert, sea, and cave climates. Isolation of free-living and symbiotic actinobacteria of plants and animals. Discovery of novel bacteria and naming them as the Persian Gulf, Arvand-river, Shiraz, and Zagros. Discovery of a novel microbial pentapeptide with antibiotic, anticancer, and antioxidant properties called persipeptide. Isolation of ~4,000 actinobacteria and identification of many of them and registration in NCBI and storage in the University of Tehran Microorganisms Collection.
